  • 11am-1pm: Polly Garnett – Polaroid workshop and Charcoal workshop

Join photographer Polly Garnett for a guided Polaroid photography workshop. Participants will explore The Brink, connect with nature and learn more about the role that the arts and storytelling can play in climate action.

  • 10-5pm: Jessica Martin – The Dirty Painter (Exhibition)

The Dirty Painter, AKA Irish artist Jessica Martin, paints solely using mud and water. “My work marries my deep love of art and creativity with a fierce passion for the protection and preservation of the natural world. My paintings act as quiet activism; demonstrating that there are alternatives out there, if only we look for them. By reducing the chemicals, toxins and plastics in my own practice, I hope to encourage others to look at ways to do the same.”

  • 2-5PM: Black Box – Recycled materials making workshop

An interactive craft workshop designed to engage the public in creating decorations from recycled materials. The workshop will feature three activities: crafting bird feeders from toilet rolls (promoting a connection with nature), creating sun-catchers from old CDs (linking to music and light), and designing flower decorations from waste bottle tops (encouraging a reimagining of waste as creative material). Our goal is to offer accessible, age-inclusive crafts that are both educational and enjoyable.

  • 2-2.45pm: The Art of Green: Creating Sustainably, Creatively

What does it mean to be a sustainable artist today? Join the Green Arts Panel for an inspiring discussion exploring how artists, producers, and cultural organisations are embedding climate-conscious practices into their work. From eco-friendly materials and production methods to rethinking touring, partnerships, and purpose—this conversation unpacks the real-world challenges and bright possibilities of creating art that treads lightly and speaks boldly in a changing world.

Stephen Beggs (Actor, director, writer, workshop facilitator and producer)
Sarah Jones (Director, NI Science Festival)
Polly Garnett (Photographer, community artist, and educator)

  • 3-4pm: Tenx9 | Power Plants

Join us for a special mini-Tenx9 on the theme of plants.

Wish to tell a tale? Or just listen to one?

We’re looking for people to share personal stories that are inspired by plants… but rooted in something deeper.

Are you a proud plant parent? A serial cactus killer? Whether it's a story of growth, grief or turning over a new leaf — if it connects to the theme (loosely or literally), we’d love to hear it. Please submit here in advance if you wish to tell a story.

Prefer to sit back and listen? Come along, grab a seat and enjoy a Sunday afternoon of humour, heart and horticulture!

Please note that some stories may have adult themes. Discretion is advised.

In partnership with the NI Science Festival.

Brink! is a social enterprise using culture to engage with people on issues related to the climate crisis.

We work and play at the point of change exploring new ways to think and act in our city.

This June, Summer Solstice from the Brink! brings 10 days of culture, conversation and climate action to Belfast.

We’re also on the hunt for a new home — so every penny you chip in helps us keep creating space for bold ideas and big change.

Love it? Help us keep it going!
